Corythoichthys haematopterus Pipefish Spawning

This is a pair of messmate pipefishes (Corythoichthys haematopterus) that has just spawned. The female is in the foreground. She and the male are pressing and twisting against one another in order to secure the eggs to the male's abdomen. Though the male is facing away, some of the eggs are visible along his abdomen. Photographed in Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan.
