Gymnothorax kidako Moray Eel

This is a Kidako moray eel (Gymnothorax kidako) opening its mouth. The fish's sharp teeth are used to grab and secure prey. A second set of pharyngeal jaws is deeper inside the throat. The second set extends to grab and pull prey inside, much like the creature in the movie Alien. Photographed in Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan.
