This is an Ezo red fox (Vulpes vulpes schrencki), called Kita Kitsune in Japanese, carrying a vole (Myodes sp.) that it caught in an area of exposed grass. At the time of this photo, the snow had just begun to melt, creating a patchwork of exposed terrain.
