Mapu a Vaea Blowholes Tongatapu Island

Pictured here is part of the coastline of Houma village, located on Tongatapu island. Passages in the volcanic substrate form channels through which seawater passes when waves meet the shore. The resulting pressure pushes water through openings in the rock, often creating spectacular plumes. This is one of the island's tourist attractions. Photographed in the Kingdom of Tonga.
