This is a close-up view of the fin of a male fat greenling (Hexagrammos otakii) aerating a clutch of eggs that is close to hatching. The adult fans the eggs with his fins in order to circulate oxygenated water to all the maturing juveniles. The eggs are covered with algal growth, which is normal during development. Photographed in Hokkaido, Japan.
