Hexagrammos otakii Hatching from Egg | Fat Greenling

This is a juvenile Hexagrammos otakii fat greenling emerging from its egg. Part of the egg shell is still visible, attached to the fish's face. Hatchlings are around 7mm at birth. It takes less than a second from to break free and swim into the water column. Photographed in Hokkaido, Japan.
