Hexagrammos otakii Greenling Embryo

Shown here is a developing fat greenling embryo (Hexagrammos otakii). This juvenile is close to hatching, as evidenced by the empty egg casings around it. The casing immediately adjacent to this one has discolored due to algal growth, suggesting that the juvenile inside emerged much earlier. Photographed in Hokkaido Japan.
