Pavona varians Coral Spawning

Shown here is a colony of corrugated coral (Pavona varians) engaged in broadcast spawning. This colony comprised female corals. Several species of fish foraged on the gametes, including this oriental butterflyfish (Chaetodon auripes), shown here ingesting streams of eggs. Photographed in Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan.
