This is a close-up view of a single Japanese stream toad egg (Bufo torrenticola), with development of the tadpole as well as the silhouettes of adjacent eggs visible. This species in endemic to Japan. It inhabits the mountainous areas of the Chubu and Kinki regions of central Honshu, occurring at elevations ranging from 50 to 1690 meters.
